What Is The Mid-Size
Fashion Movement?
If Instagram is ‘life’ to you right now, like it is for us, you may well have seen the hashtags #midsizestyle #midsizegal or #midsizecollective cropping up and wondering what on earth it is.
‘Mid-size’ is the new term that has taken social media by storm, representing women who are sizes 10-18 and who we rarely see on our screens, despite having the bodies that the majority of women in the UK have themselves.
The average woman in the UK is now a size 16 and is 5’4” tall, but we are still seeing women who are size 6-8 and who are 5’9” tall, as standard, when it comes representing women in fashion. We are beginning to see plus-size models more regularly, which is a small win for women, but there is still a lot of work there to be done, especially when it comes to women who are over size 16 and under 5’4”.
But the rapid growth of this movement has made it abundantly clear that there is a significant need to see all shapes and sizes when it comes to representing women and normalising all bodies, particularly the average body.
So was born the ‘mid-size’ movement. Women from across the world who are size 10-18 are coming together using the hashtags #midsizegal #midsizestyle and #midsizecollective to show love and appreciation for their bodies.
One of the driving forces behind this movement is Anushka Moore who founded Midsize Collective, encouraging the use of the hashtag #midsizecollective on Instagram for mid-size women to share their body positive posts with the world. If you want to see some great style and good vibes then this is an account worth following.
While not strictly for petite women, we know that women don’t always fit in one box and there are plenty of us shorty’s who are also mid-size and plus-size. And even if you aren’t, who can’t get behind this appreciation for women in all their beautiful glory! So we’ll be obsessively following Midsize Collective on Insta for the foreseeable.
